While trying to wrap its fingers, hands and head around the insecurity that is consuming the Giant of Africa without a clear direction on how to solve it all yet, the Federal Government of Nigeria has urged the conflicting Israel and Palestine to sheathe their swords.
Recall that death toll rose to 36 as Israel continued to bombard Palestinian cities over a long unresolved conflict. One multi-storey residential building in Gaza had collapsed on Wednesday and another heavily damaged after they were repeatedly hit by Israeli airstrikes. Other strikes targeted what the military said were rocket launch sites, Hamas offices, and the homes of Hamas leaders.
In a statement issued by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson, Ferdinand Nwonye, it was revealed that the Federal Government is watching the unfolding developments in the two nations with great concern, urging both parties to see reasons to deescalate the hostilities. Urging further, the FG appealed to the conflicting parties to remain committed to their two-state solution and guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and dignity.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state that the Federal Government of Nigeria is watching with great concern, the unfolding developments in Israel and the State of Palestine and urges both parties to see reason and de-escalate the hostilities. The Nigerian Government further urges the two parties to remain committed to the two-state solution and, in the meantime, guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and dignity”, the statement reads.
